Curriculum

Curriculum is designed developmentally and draws from many sources, including from Debra’s own extensive experience working with students identified on the autism spectrum, ADHD, and other social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Room 14,  Navigating the Social World,  Inside Out: What Makes a Person with Social Cognitive Deficits Tick, and other curricula are foundational for social skills sessions, but they are expanded with a wide variety of strategies and functional and practical experiences. All courses are supported visually, include sensory interventions, begin with a feeling check in, include a reinforcement system and provide written feedback to parents. All session groups use videotaping as an instructional tool and provide for extensive skill rehearsal. Students receive a notebook detailing each group session's goals and supporting materials. This notebook which students may take home each week, allows them to share with parents, teachers and other helpers. The notebook is also used as a basis for practicing and reinforcing the new skills.
